Staff prepared the food and sourced recipes for Mocktails. The clients had a terrific time and socialised with their Estia friends.

A big thank you to staff member "Jessica" for organising the gathering as well as all staff who assisted in making the evening memorable for those we support.

West Side Story - Musical

Another great theatrical experience for our clients on February 11th at Riverside Theatre (Parramatta) - West Side Story.

They were all engaged in the show especially the fighting part. Martin and Andrew were on the edge of their seats. Joanna was singing along with the songs. And Mathew whispered to staff ït's an excellent show".

Sound of Music - Musical

Clients of our organisation had a good time yesterday at the musical The Sound of Music.

Clients loved the music with Christopher and Nicki singing along.

It was an absolutely fun and spectacular show and certainly worth the trip.

Our clients looked like million dollar men and women all dressed in either Sound of Music costume or in their special clothes.

A fabulous time had by all.

Cats - The Musical

On Sunday, 8th November 2015, some clients and staff were fortunate enough to see the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats at the Capitol Theatre.

The singing, dancing, costumes, makeup, lighting, stage set and props were wonderful and our clients enjoyed the musical immensely. They especially loved Delta Goodrem's performance of "Memory", which gave goosebumps and received a standing ovation.

At the completion of the show, Delta Goodrem made a special effort to meet and greet our service users and was willing to mingle and take photographs. An absolutely delightful and talented individual!

Staff and clients of Estia were treated with care and dignity by the staff at the Capitol Theatre and those employees ought to be commended for their professionalism in managing people with disabilities.

22nd August 2015 - Elvis Presley Show - Gladesville RSL

We had a BLAST at the Elvis Presley Show. We rocked the house!

It was a nostalgic musical journey of the 50's, 60's and 70's. As soon as the music started dancing Helen began dancing and without any prodding went straight to the dance floor all by herself. Our other clients, Alex, John, Peter, Erin joined Helen on the dance floor. Staff then took the more inhibited clients to the dance floor.

Jessica was a sight to watch with her professional dance moves (she goes to dancing school); Peter entertained the entire audience with his dramatic moves; Alex whose body was stiff as a statue moved his feet and hands and stood in front of the stage from beginning to end like a soldier in command.

John was all smiles and dancing in his own world. Everytime an Elvis came out he would yell out "Elvis! Elvis!".

Andrew with his walker shook his entire body (one staff member had to be behind him) and was singing along with the music. Michelle danced excitedly. Perry's wheelchair kept moving everywhere as he moved to the rhythm of the music.

Frank's joy was indescribable. He never closed his mouth from smiling.

Estia staff also took turns dancing with our clients on the dance floor. It was a super great night!

As staff wheeled Frank out of the auditorium, one lady stopped an Estia staff member and asked what organisation we were from. They shook their hand and said "you guys are doing a great job". At the very end when the Estia family were about to exit, one lady grabbed Victoria's (staff member) hand and said "thank you, thank you, thank you".. When Victoria asked what the thank you was for, the lady said "Thank you for enteraining us and taking care of these people. You people will be blessed".

It was a wonderful night for clients and staff and it was good to end the night with such emotional reward.

17th July 2015

Disney on Ice

Our clients were treated to a spectacular show at Allphones Arena on July 10th 2015. "Disney on Ice" was an extravaganza of colourful  and stunning visual effects that had our clients stand up from their seats, clap their hands in the air and sing along with the Disney characters. It was fun to see even our shy clients dancing and swaying to the lively music of their favourite Disney songs.

The amazing costumes; characters dancing on air; Mickey Mouse, Minnie, The Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and Rapunzel skating flawslessly all added to the spectacle of the show. It appeared as though the people we support truly enjoy themselves as they love music. Staff can't wait to see the client's reaction when they are taken to the "Elvis Presley Show" (in August), the "Tina Turner Show" (in September) and the all time favourite "Sound of Music" (in December).

Cosmopolitan living for our residents with disabilities.

The Hon. Victor Dominello Member for Ryde and Mr Mark Coure Member for Oatley and other special friends, visited 5-7 Pearson St Gladesville for a preview of the new building.

On one day each week, from the 24th April until the 22nd May 2015, the Estia Foundation of Australia welcomed nine students from the St Andrew's Greek Orthodox Theological College.

The purpose of the visit was for these students to familiarise themselves with other organisationa under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese umbrella. The Estia Foundation of Australiais always very mindful of the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the people we support and this experience certainly did not breach any of those aspects.

The students who visited interacted with clients by assisting  with activities, conversation and helped household chores. On the last day of their visit, Estia staff and clients held a BBQ in the church hall for the students and everyone had fun with good food, music and dancing.

The Estia Foundation of Australia welcomes any feedback received as it is used as a platform to improve services.

We take this oppurtunity to thank Mrs Calandra and Mr Bannerman for their positive words and Estia will continue to strive towards raising the bar in providing support services to those in our community with intellectual and physical disabilities.

17th September 2014

On the 17th September 2014, the Estia Foundation of Australia threw a small surprise party for our very valued team leader at Elpida House, Mrs Sophia Tzaneros.

The people we support, Estia staff from all facilities along with Management felt it was a nice gesture to surprise Sophia for her 70th Birthday as a token of our gratitude for all her hard work and love she shows to our Service Users.

Sophia is an integral part of Elpida House and creates a warm and friendly environment at the respite house in Roselands, not only by her fabulous cooking but in her manner towards families who require support. Our service users and staff spent lunch with Sophia and gave her flowers and small gifts to help celebrate her 70th.

We take this opportunity to wish Sophia a very Happy Birthday!

Positive Approaches to Behaviour Support Training

On Monday 8th September 2014, Estia staff participated in an in house workshop on "Positive Approaches to Behaviour Support". This all day training workshop was extremely beneficial for our staff when presented with behaviours or situations that are challenging.

Pearson St Update

Good progress is being made on the Pearson St building with the first level of concrete now laid.

Tradesmen are on site daily with work going into this building a fine example of true craftsmanship. The foundations of the building are solid with top quality materials being used.

ABBA Cruise

Abba are one of the legendary super groups from the Pop hall of fame. Thier music is loved as much today as it was back then and is enjoyed by people of all genres and backgrounds.

On the 5th October 2014, seven of Estia's residents will be attending an ABBA cruise show.

We all have a favourite ABBA song, Mamma Mia, Knowing Me Knowing You, Fernando and Gimme Gimme Gimme to name a few. There are many ABBA tribute bands out there but according to Rhythmboat Cruises none quite like the ones on Rhythmboat.

Our clients of Estia will enjoy a fabulous twilight dinner and then sing and dance their heart out to their favourite ABBA tracks in tribute to these great masters of song lyrics and catchy tunes.

This outing is an example of the quality activities we are planning for our service users here at Estia.

Eagleton Ridge Respite Centre

On Monday, 28th April 2014, Estia's four residents living at Lixouri Group Home went on a short getaway to Eagleton Ridge Respite Centre. Eagleton Ridge Respite is located on a farm near Raymond Terrace, North of Newcastle.

Accessing Eagleton Ridge means that Estia's permanent service users are given the opportunity to leave city life and their regular routines for a few days whilst still obtaining the support from Eagleton Staff to meet their individual needs.

Whilst on their holiday, Estia's residents participate in "life on a farm" type of activities. Some include: tractor rides, assist in feeding the chickens, egg collection, assist in feeding the horses and goats, helping to feed and water the cockatoos, watering the herb garden, going for bush walks, visiting the local beaches and attractions and watching movies of a night.

Our clients really enjoy their stays at Eagleton Ridge and look forward to their next mini break.

Photos of their getaway can be found in the Image Gallery.

Estia are launching its very own newsletter.

The newsletter will be posted on this website bimonthly.

Demolition of no. 5 and 7 Pearson St Gladesville, is completed and the building process of a group home complex housing 10 individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities has begun.

Progress on the new complex at 5 and 7 Pearson St Gladesville is well underway with work being completed according to schedule.

The Estia Foundation anticipates that construction will be completed in April - May 2015.

An interim facility has been rented and transitions into group home living is now underway in preparation for when the complex is complete.

The Estia Foundation has officially opened a new group home facility in Gladesville servicing six individuals moving towards providing permanent accommodation to ten people with intellectual disabilities once the brand new complex is built.

For the interim, the Estia Foundation has rented a six bedroom house close to the building site and six of the residents have begun their transition process. Eventually these residents will be permanent service users of the Estia Foundation.

The Estia Foundation anticipates that the new complex will be completed in twelve months when all ten clients will move into their brand new state of the art environment.

Building is expected to commence in early 2014.

Estia's head office has moved to a temporary location above St Andrews Church hall where final preparations are well underway for demolition to take place.

The Estia Foundation anticipates to hire a new cook once the building is complete in Gladesville.

1st October 2013 - Estia Fundraising Dinner 2013

On the 27th September 2013, the Estia Foundation of Australia held it's biennial Fundraising Dinner at Le Montage, Lilyfield.

The night was extremely successful.

A car was raffled off to one lucky supporter. A holiday, television, vouchers and jewellery items were also amongst some of the prizes to be won.

Once again there were quality items within both the Silent and Live Auctions with most goods being sold. Approximately $400,000 was raised, but funds are still being finalised.

The highlight of the evening was the unprecedented announcement that $10 million was being donated by an anonymous Estia supporter.

A historic moment for the Estia Foundation and indeed the Greek-Australian community in Australia.

Management of Estia take this opportunity to thank all involved in the evening and for their generous support.

1st June 2013 - “ESTIA” RECEIVES SUBSTANTIAL BOOST TO FUNDING FROM NSW GOVERNMENT

Two new homes to be built for young people with disabilities.

The Barry O’Farrell NSW Government has consolidated the view that the Estia Foundation of Australia, the mission of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese supporting young people with disabilities, is one of the finest institutions of its kind in Australia.

In a glowing appraisal of the quality service offered, the approval of a further 1.16 million dollars in recurrent funding to Estia through the Stronger Together phase 2 programme was announced on Friday 1st June in the presence of His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia and President of the Estia Foundation, by the NSW Minister for Disability Services, the Hon Andrew Constance.

Also present at the historic announcement were the Minister for Fair Trading the Hon Anthony Roberts MP, the Minister for Citizenship and Communities the Hon Victor Dominello MP, members of the community formerly in residence whom the Foundation continues to support, Mr Paul Nicolaou and his wife Sophia, Mrs Metty Cassimatis, Mrs Sandra Gav, Mrs Chrstina Scalone and the exceptional staff of Estia.

The Archbishop thanked the NSW Government “for the sensitivity demonstrated towards people with disabilities and especially for its acknowledgment that the Estia Foundation is now a recognized leader in the provision of quality service and a truly caring environment for people with special needs”. His Eminence expressed the gratitude of the Church to the three responsible Ministers present and also offered His heartfelt appreciation for the love extended to Estia by the thousands of faithful who support the Foundation so generously.

Commenting on the increase in recurrent funding, the indefatigable CEO of the Estia Foundation, Father Angelo Alifierakis, explained that “in addition to the existing centre-based respites and the current group home, this announcement means that Estia can now expand and establish two more permanent group homes for young adults with disabilities whose parents or primary carers can no longer care for them. It will enable them to live a more independent lifestyle as Estia will focus on the person-centered approach and individual needs”.

As a result, with the assistance of Professor Angelo Candalepas, renowned award-winning architect, two new modern facilities for young people with disabilities will now be designed and built accordingly at Gladesville in Sydney. Each residence will house five people in each home. Each resident will have their own living quarters complete with en suite, community access, within walking distance to shops and transport and 24-hour care.
The Minister for Disability Services, the Hon Andrew Constance, concluded by stating “The new villas are an example of the NSW Liberals and Nationals commitment to people with a disability through the implementation of Stronger Together 2, the Government’s five year, $2 billion strategy to reform disability support services.”

In view of this development, it is timely to recall that when announcing the establishment of this crucial missionary effort of the Church in November 1994, His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos expressed the certainty that the Estia Foundation of Australia would become not only the umbrella organization for similar efforts in other States, but also the point of reference for the level of commitment and sacrifice required in order to serve young people with special needs.

Father Angelo congratulates his dedicated team of co-workers at the Estia Foundation for their loyalty, commitment and ongoing support.
